On April 24, Barry and Helen Girten, an enthusiastic fishing couple from Illinois, embarked on a guided fishing journey with seasoned crappie specialist Trent Goss. Their destination was Grenada Lake, a vast 35,000-acre reservoir nestled in north-central Mississippi, celebrated for its abundant population of large crappies, especially as fish prepare for spawning season. Throughout the morning, the trio successfully landed several significant fish, with two crappies already tipping the scales at 2.60 and 2.75 pounds, much to the Girtens' delight.
As midday approached, a shift in wind conditions prompted guide Goss to steer their vessel towards the more sheltered southern bank of the lake, specifically the Pine Woods Creek vicinity.
