Alison Brie's Intense Fitness Regimen for 'Masters of the Universe' Role

Alison Brie, at 43 years old, was already a devoted attendee of Rise Movement for roughly 15 years. Her commitment to strength training intensified after portraying wrestler Ruth Wilder, also known as Zoya the Destroyer, in the Netflix series 'GLOW.' This consistent dedication meant she didn't have to start from scratch when preparing for her role as the villain Evil-Lyn in the new He-Man movie, 'Masters of the Universe.'

Alison noted that her training for 'Masters of the Universe' was considerably easier than for 'GLOW,' thanks to the muscle memory she had developed. Her typical weekly routine involves three days at Rise Movement, two days of Pilates or Peloton, and one day of hiking, with a final day dedicated to rest. Despite her petite stature, Alison emphasizes that her gym activities often surprise people, showcasing her "tiny but mighty" strength. She demonstrates this prowess with weighted pull-ups, among other challenging exercises.

A session with her trainer, Jason Walsh of Rise Movement, typically commences with a hip-thrust warm-up, starting with 50 lbs and progressing to a working weight of 300 lbs. This is followed by contrast training, which includes isometrically holding a Zercher squat at maximum effort before performing the actual lift. According to Walsh, this method engages the nervous system intensely, leading to significant strength gains without increasing muscle size. Brie then moves on to weighted pull-ups, adding an extra 45 lbs, and push-ups with additional resistance. Her workout concludes with bodyweight inverted rows, an exercise she particularly values for building a strong, healthy back, and a full-body shoulder press incorporating leg drive.
